Bone Regeneration

Traditionally, pockets are eliminated by opening the gingiva (gum tissue), followed by re-contouring the uneven bone tissue using small diamond burs. In more severely involved areas, recontouring of bone is combined with placing bone grafts into the residual osseous (bone) defect using bone from a tissue bank. The bone graft reduces the extent of bone recontouring necessary and allows healing of advanced bone defects that are too severe to be treated with osseous recontouring alone.
