Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery

These procedures are a predictable way to improve esthetic compromises, some of which use new gum grafting surgical procedures. In one such procedure called Connective Tissue Grafting, unsightly, sensitive, or exposed root surfaces are covered by new tissue.

A second procedure is used when teeth appear too short. Although these teeth appear short, they may actually be the proper length; the teeth may be covered with too much gum tissue. We can correct this by performing the periodontal plastic surgery procedure called crown lengthening.

During this procedure, excess gum and bone tissue are reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth. This is often done to multiple teeth to create a beautiful smile.

A third type of esthetic periodontal plastic surgery is performed to “harmonize” gum tissue margins. This is used to level the gum tissue margins when some teeth are too short and others appear too long. In some of the smile improving periodontal procedures, your dentist may need to provide restorative treatment to create the best esthetic results.
